Tips

Sprinkler Repair Services in Vallejo, California, provides high-quality repair, rework, and installation of residential sprinkler systems. Prior to calling us, read about these valuable tips to help you troubleshoot your sprinkler system on your own.

Controllers

If you have an old model Irritrol Rain Dial™ controller and it’s giving you problems, just unplug the controller, remove the battery from the door panel. Wait 15 minutes with your controller unplugged and the battery removed. This will allow it to reset itself back to factory settings.

If your Rain Dial controller is the outdoor version and is hardwired, you will need to turn off the circuit breaker at your electrical panel, but remember to remove the battery too. After waiting 15 minutes, install a new 9-volt battery, then plug in the electrical cord or turn the circuit breaker back on. This procedure usually solves most programming and simple electrical problems for the Rain Dial.

For most other controllers, this same procedure will also provide similar results. If your Rain Dial or another type of controller still has problems, then you will need to call us.

Valves

If you think you have a valve problem, check to see if the water is turned on! You would be surprised how many times we’ve arrived at a home only to find that the water was turned off. Did you recently have your house painted? House painters may turn off the water to your sprinkler system and then forget to tell you about it. You may also have turned off the main sprinkler valve because of rain, or a child may have turned it.

Sprinkler Heads

Every sprinkler head should water the heads adjacent to it. In this way, each head waters the weak spots of its neighbors, resulting in correctly watered lawn and shrubbery.

Is a sprinkler head leaking or not? After a sprinkler valve turns off, the water in the pipes will continue to flow out of the lowest sprinkler heads on the line. If after a minute or so the lowest sprinkler head is still leaking, then the sprinkler valve has failed to close 100%. Turn the sprinkler valve on and off a few times. If this fails to solve the problem, then the sprinkler valve may need to be rebuilt or replaced.
